E-MAIL A COUNSELLOR

E-mail a counsellor is part of our distance Counselling Service For those who wish to receive the benefits of counselling via the internet we offer our INTERNET COUNSELLING service. Sometimes it may not be practical for you to see a counselor face to face, or perhaps you find the idea a bit daunting to begin with. If so, online may be the most helpful way for you to start the counselling process. If you have access to a computer and feel comfortable with communicating by email or instant messenger, then online counselling may be your preferred option. You can use either email therapy or live chat sessions exclusively, or you can mix and match to meet your needs. Some things to consider before you decide whether or not to access internet counselling.

Confidentiality is at the heart of our philosophy and we work to the highest ethical standards and make every effort to ensure your privacy. However, online communication needs to be as secure as possible and therefore we take every precaution to ensure that our virus protection, firewall and operating procedures are effective and up to date. We have a dedicated e-mail account which is encrypted and password protected. You may need to consider if anyone else at your terminal will be able to access your email folder and view your browser history and may need to take steps to encrypt your own e-mail. Please be aware that, in accordance the Data Protection Act 1998 and the principles to which we adhere, we will not disclose, publish or pass on to a third party any of your personal details or any personally sensitive information about you. Occasionally we may take some of the issues you bring to our supervisor, to ensure that we are counselling in a way that is safe and beneficial to you and as required by the British Association of Counsellors and Psychotherapists ethical code. Payment and Response

Payment is made using PayPal (or by cheque before the response) We will respond to your e-mail within 48 hours of payment being received. It is generally helpful for you to wait at least a day before replying to our response in order that you can properly process the information in our e-mail. It is not always possible for us to be available to e-mail over the weekend. During your first contact, if you choose to opt for MSN messaging we will discuss times and availability. The cost of two exchanges of e-mail conversation is £40. The length of each of your e-mails may not exceed two A4 pages of text. Continuing with the counseling therapy and the frequency of e-mails will always be at your discretion. It is up to you to decide how many e-mail exchanges you would like, but we must both feel free to end the exchanges at any time if we feel that it is appropriate to do so and this will be done via e-mail. If we wish to terminate the e-mail counselling we will discuss this with you first. We want you to feel comfortable during the e-mail process. We are aware that e-mailing differs from face to face counseling in that expression and emotion in text may not be as clear and obvious as in face to face counselling. Therefore, to avoid possible misunderstandings, it is always helpful if we both feel free to be able to seek clarification of meaning if all is not clear. It is helpful to the counselling process if your first e-mail contains sufficient background information about you and your situation in addition to the issues about which you would like to talk. The first e-mail should include: Your name and how you would like to be known Your age, and your partner's age if you are in a relationship Ages of any children that you may have and also whether they are the children of your current relationship. How long you have been in your current relationship
