We cannot work with you if

Sometimes we are not the service best suited to your present needs.

WE CAN NOT WORK WITH YOU IF..

Sometimes due to your present circumstances the Distance Counselling Service is not appropriate.

  • Our Distance Counselling (none-face-to-face) services are unsuitable for persons under the age of 16 years unless they are able to provide parental consent to the work proceeding and the parent is also copied in to both queries and replies. Many schools in the United Kingdom now provide confidential counselling services, and young peoples' counselling is usually available through Relate. See your local phone directory or library.
  • If you are seriously considering suicide, self harm or are feeling dangerously desperate, then you need help NOW.

Samaritans 08457909090 is always there to help, and other suicide help charities are listed in the local phone directories and on the internet. You should contact one of them immediately. You need face to face professional help at once. If it is not available where you are, contact your doctor or minister of religion or someone locally you feel may be sympathetic. Only if you are sure you are not an immediate and present threat to your own safety is distance therapy suitable.

  • If you have, or have had, a strong impulse to hurt other people, damage their property or in any other way be violent you need face to face help immediately. You may already be doing terrible things while under the influence of alcohol, drugs or hallucinations that you will feel guilty about later. Seek face to face help at once from your doctor or other health and help provider. Only if you are sure that you are not about to become a threat to the safety of another or their property is our distance therapy suitable.
  • You may already know that you suffer from a serious psychiatric disorder, or you may suffer from severe mood swings, hear voices, see things others don't or have become convinced that others are conspiring against you. You should seek psychiatric help at once. Do not let fear or shame prevent you from seeking appropriate help and the benefit of drugs or other treatments. Only when your known psychiatric disorder is under the control of the doctors is distance therapy a safe and suitable form of further treatment.
