Many Many people have discovered the benefits of having a personal or life coach. What does a personal or life coach do, exactly? Like a personal trainer at the gym, a personal coach is someone to whom you agree choose to be accountable for making specific and measurable accomplishments toward a goal of your cyour choosing. But instead of physical fitness, the focus is on personal or professional success and overalto achieve satisfaction with your life.

The Among the most common issues people seek personal coaching for are:

  • dealing with difficult people (e.g. a boss, customer, co-worker or friend)
  • procrastination and/or poor time management
  • lack of focus or direction, inability to get and stay organized
  • need help with self-confidence/assertiveness
  • excessive stress or burnout
Personal coaches also address people's compulsive or addictive behaviours that are interfering with their performance or preventing them from achieving their full potential and in meeting their goals. Such behaviours include using alcohol, drugs, food, sex, shopping, gambling etc. to manage their frustrations anger and moods.

How is coaching different from psychotherapy? First of all, coaching clients don't have significant concerns that can be described as mental health problems, although they may have anxiety or depression. Some have ADD or OCD, as a character trait which both drives them to succeed and also stands in the way of them fulfilling their potential. The relationship between coach and client is a collaborative one with the coach taking an active role in identifying the goals as well as obstacles to achieve them. The relationship allows for the coach to be a bit of a nag in monitoring the client's progress! Coaching is a matter of asking the right questions, opening the doors of possibility, shedding light, not telling people what they should do. It can be thought of looking forward not harking back for unlike therapy or counselling, life coaching starts from where you are now and helps you get to where you want to be.

Personal coaching is just that, it is personal. The life coach brings life-experience, care, skill and absolute confidentiality. You are free to bring whatever concerns that you have about social values, business relationships, career, finance, personal values, guilt or fear, etc. To begin with trainer and client will work together to define your own life plan which is not just . goal setting but is proactive with an emphasis on goal achievement.

With help you come to realise that you truly can be, do or have anything that you want. And you coach will be with you each step of the way guiding and encouraging you to turn that realisation into a reality for you. By sticking to regular weekly sessions your enthusiasm and determination are supported and strengthened, so ensuring that the results are lasting beneficial changes - unlike the temporary 'high' that can follow a seminar or a single motivational talk.

Your coach will lead you through all the areas of your life. Business, spiritual, personal, your mind, body and spirit and will never be judgemental or critical but will coach to help you achieve your full potential. You will notice the difference, as will your friends, family and business colleagues. You will not need to tell anyone you are having life coaching unless you want to since the results will speak for themselves. You will change your life and achieve your full life potential.

This is what the papers have to say.

'Coaching deals with all areas of life, professional and personal - it's not just for people with problems - but for those who want to do what they do even better.'
Independent on Sunday
'More and more people are employing a professional to help them get their lives under control and finally achieve everything they want.'
Daily Mail

The Times
'Part mentor, part adviser, part professional nagger, life coaches help you make those difficult decisions you would rather put off.'
The Scotsman
'There's no time for psychotherapy - these are the days of fast solutions. Need a new boyfriend, a new partner or promotion? Goodbye couch, call a coach.'
The Guardian
'We all want more time for ourselves, success, happiness, money - but few of us know how to move towards those things. Coaching helps you get results fast.'
SHE
'Coaches act as a mirror, helping people to work out what they want, what they are good at, what they are bad at, where and how they can improve.'
Financial Times
'Coaching - an action ... partnership that unlike psychotherapy which delves into your past, concentrates on where you are today and how you can reach your goals.'
Time Out

Coaching focuses on constructing solutions and goal attainment - goals are generally short-term, must be specific and realistic, and achievement measurable. It doesn't require the coach to have hands on expertise of your profession or to share your life-style, though the coach's long counseling or consulting experience along with their extensive life experience and employment experience are invaluable. While regular weekly sessions are best, after the first few meetings, the week to week monitoring of progress may sometimes be done via phone or email if other commitments stand in your way.

Many types of life coaches exist from different specialties and backgrounds but the most important fact is , that a repartee is established between coach and client.
