About Us at Absolute Discretion

The Absolute Discretion Service

We offer personal counselling therapy, and individual life-coaching for clients who are experiencing concerns in their lives, or who feel they are not reaching their full potential. We recognise the unnecessary pain endured by many people from problems that have arisen in their private life, relationships, family situations, parenting, in their social network and with friends, or in their working or school environments. These concerns may include fears, phobias, guilt, anger, low self esteem, bullying, bereavement, damaged relationships, affairs, addictions, obsessive or compulsive behaviours, sadness, depression anxiety, sexual behaviours, gender issues, unhappiness, hopelessness, procrastination, or just a general feeling that things are not as they should be in one's life.

We offer a face to face service to clients in and around North West Shropshire, North Powys and South Clwyd from our consulting rooms set in discreet rural surroundings situated between Oswestry, Welshpool and Shrewsbury. And we provide a range of Distance Counselling options for those living in the remainder of the United Kingdom. The Distance Counselling services include Internet email, telephone and counselling by letter, or a combination of these to suit client needs.

Our personal service is available to all individuals, couples or family groups. And we are also able to offer these services through GP practices or as a benefit provided by employers to their staff, Trade Unions to their members and solicitors for clients.

Speakers are available, at no cost, to address groups in our local area on a variety of life-problem and counselling subjects, and articles may be prepared for press, media and publication.

ABOUT COUNSELLOR DENIS SHARP

I am a married family man with three grown up children, and have lived in the same Shropshire village for over thirty years.

I have spent most of my working life involved helping and advising people who are experiencing problems in their work-place, their private lives or in their relationships, and those in need of support and help from an experienced professional.

This has included working with the problems of individuals in local government settings, commerce, industry and finance, as well as with the concerns encountered by people in their everyday life and with their intimate relationships. Confidentiality and absolute discretion have been a necessary prerequisite for all the work in which I have been involved, and continue to be a hallmarks of my practice.

My voluntary work has included periods with the Citizen's Advice Bureau, Victim Support and with Relate, as well as in support of youth projects and work with the learning disabled.

I hold Certificates in Counselling from Birmingham University, and from the University of East London, as well as having completed specialist courses in mental health, drug awareness, domestic violence, counselling children and young people, and last-chance couple therapy etc. I hold the Diploma in Couple Counselling through Hull University and I continue with professional development currently completing MSc in Couple Counselling Therapy through Hull University, and associated courses through the Doncaster College Relate Institute. I also undertake research in the field of counselling.

In addition to private work, conducted under the practice name 'Absolute Discretion Counselling Therapy', I continue to work for Relate Cheshire and Merseyside in both a paid and voluntary capacity, and I am available to speak on counselling emotional problems and wellbeing to local groups.

I hold full insurance cover for all aspects of the counselling therapy provided, and hold the Enhanced Disclosure Criminal Records Bureau status, and I am subject to regular peer supervision.

I am pleased to be associated with Margaret Pearson in the provision of counselling therapy through Absolute Discretion Counselling Therapy.

About Margaret Pearson.

My early years were as a primary teacher but for the last five years I have worked for Relate in Shropshire and Cheshire which I continue to do alongside private practice.

Throughout my years as a teacher and more recently with Relate I have been privileged to share with families and couples the journey we make together towards change and fulfillment. I offer couples and individuals a safe, confidential and non judgmental space in which to talk and explore difficult and tough issues.

I hope to work alongside you in a trusting collaborative relationship, in order that your goals may be reached. All issues you bring are important and respected and if they are important for you they will also be important for me.

I'm a member of the BACP and hold a Post Graduate Relate Diploma in Couple Counselling accredited by Hull University.

Among the areas of counselling with which I work are:-

Relationship counselling with couples, individuals and families.
Anxiety
Bereavement
Depression
Low self esteem

I work as an integrative counsellor using models from Psychodynamic and Systemic theory with ideas from CBT (Cognitive Behavioral Therapy) and Transactional Analysis.

I am bound by the British Association of Counsellors and Psychotherapist Ethical Framework, and I am subject to BACP professional conduct procedures. My work is regularly supervised and I maintain a diverse and continuous programme of professional development. All information shared in the process of counselling is treated in confidence. No personal information will be shared with anyone else, without the client's permission unless particular and exceptional legal situations arise.

The Counselling Therapy Resource

We know that when you have worries you probably prefer to be able to find a solution for yourself if at all possible. That's why our site includes many short articles on a variety of subjects that frequently raise concerns. And while we do not sell books, we include a section on 'Helpful Books', along with a section entitled 'Useful Contacts' where we list the helpline numbers and web addresses for a host of supportive organisations.

We are always pleased to update this resource. If you have experience of a government or charitable service provider, or have found a book particularly helpful please let us know so we can consider adding it to our site to help others.

We are also able to submit articles and comment on associated subjects to the press and media, and to provide speakers in the Shrewsbury, Oswestry, Welshpool area.
